Ghost Lovers are sugar, spice, and everything nice

Ghost Lovers

WHO ARE GHOST LOVERS?

Ghost Lovers is a four-piece band out of Queen Creek, Arizona — formed, as they put it, with “sugar, spice, everything nice, and a little bit of freakiness.” Part indie rock, part guitar class chaos, and all charm, the band blends catchy melodies with emotionally-rooted lyrics, drawing influence from acts like The Backseat Lovers, Mac DeMarco, and Phoneboy.

Their sound? They describe it as a Polaroid. Not retro for retro’s sake — but a snapshot of a feeling, a moment, a memory you thought you forgot until a melody brought it rushing back.

With a Cali tour on the books and new songs brewing, 2025 looks like a big year for the Lovers — or at least, as they say, “We’ll prob get something out in the very least.”

SNQLX: Let’s start simple — how did the band come together?

Ghost Lovers: We all kinda met together in school. Quinn and Luther were childhood friends while Rat and Alyssa met in a guitar class in school. The four of them met in guitar class and the rest is history.

SNQLX: Where does the name come from, and what does it mean to you now?

Ghost Lovers: The name originally came from the bands love of the supernatural. The bands name now means when you fall “Head Over Heels” 😉 for someone who ended up Ghosting you.

SNQLX: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you before?

GL: We would describe it as a “Polaroid” almost. Memories frozen in time from a picture.

SNQLX: If your band were a movie genre, what would it be — and what’s the plot?

GHOST LOVERS: Horror Comedy. Plot would be a love obsessed stalker but they SUCK at stalking.

SNQLX: Who were the artists or albums that made you want to start a band in the first place?

GL: Phoneboy is a HUGE inspiration for all of us. Their album “Moving Out” is something that we love and really look up to. We also look up to the style of lyrics from “The Backseat Lovers” and the laid back weirdness of “Mac DeMarco”

SNQLX: What’s the first song you ever wrote together, and do you still play it live?

GL: “Song For You” is the first song we ever wrote fully as a band. And WE LOVE playing this song live. The crowd loves it, we love it and hopefully others will too.

SNQLX: When you’re writing music, where do you usually start — lyrics, melody, vibe?

GL: We usually start with a chord progression. Then we decide a theme for the chord progression and start writing lyrics. It’s a simple yet fun process.

SNQLX: Is there a particular theme or emotion you’re exploring in your latest songs?

GL: For our newest song “Hypnotize” focuses on Love Bombing. Our unreleased song that’s releasing soon will focus on somewhat of the same theme but different.

SNQLX: What’s been your most memorable moment on stage so far?

GL: Our most memorable moment on stage HAS to be when Quinn crowd surfed at the Halloween Show in 2024. That was when Ghost Lovers became a REAL band.

SNQLX: Outside of music, what influences you creatively — films, photography, books, etc.?

GL: Each member has their own unique influence:

Alyssa (Bassist) is heartbreak.
Rat (Drummer) is life as a whole.
Luther (Guitarist) bringing people together.
Quinn (Vocalist) is “Night In The Woods”.

Besides Quinn the rest don’t have films, Photography or books that influence them.

SNQLX: What does a good show feel like for you — what are you chasing up there?

GL: When people actually vibe with us. We want to actually connect with us and feel what we felt when writing the songs. In a good way.

SNQLX: What’s the weirdest place you’ve practiced or written a song? Be honest.

GL: An empty room with literally 0 instruments. It was for a competition as well so we were a little stressed out and worried before going onstage. However we still got First Place.

SNQLX: If your band had a warning label, what would it say?

GL: CAUTION: DIVAS AT WORK

SNQLX: What’s one piece of gear you’d grab in a fire — and one you’d pretend accidentally burned?

GL: We 100% would grab our guitars. We would PRETEND the kick drum accidentally burned down cuz of the insurance we have on it.

SNQLX: Who in the band would survive longest on a desert island, and who’s getting eaten first?

GL: Alyssa would probably survive the longest on a desert island. She’s just the baddest out of all of us. Luther would get eaten first for no reason.

SNQLX: What’s the most chaotic thing that’s happened before, during, or after a show so far?

GL: Funny enough Luther got rear ended 15 minutes into the Cali tour. The other persons car was trashed while he walked away with barely a scratch. (This isn’t about cars /joke)

SNQLX: Which one of you is most likely to forget the lyrics — and just freestyle something weird?

GL: Quinn. He forgets a lot of the lyrics even though he writes them and is the lead vocalist. But he’s also the best at improv. It’s how some lyrics get made.

SNQLX: What do you hope people feel or take away when they hear your music?

GL: We hope people feel understood. Music makes people feel comfortable and safe. And we want others to feel that way. We want people to know that they’re not alone in their experiences.

SNQLX: What’s next — any upcoming releases, shows, or goals you’re excited about?

GL: Besides our California tour we’ve been super excited for our next release. We can’t say anything about it for the time being but the next song we will release is definitely one you won’t want to miss.

Whether you catch them in a packed room or stumble on a late-night stream, Ghost Lovers leave an impression that lingers, kind of like the last line of a love letter you never got to send. There’s charm in their chaos, truth in their melodies, and a spark in their come-up that feels worth rooting for. They’re not just chasing the next song or show, what they are really after is connection, and they’re doing it on their own weird, wonderful terms.

Arizona’s got a lot of heat, but Ghost Lovers might be the next to catch fire.

And now, a message and challenge from Quinn of Ghost Lovers (listen til the end!!!)
