Atypical Heroes: Not all Heroes wear capes

Before Atypical Heroes was a band, it was a song. Frontman Jesus wrote it after losing several friends to suicide — a quiet tribute to the people who show up without capes, without fanfare, and without asking for anything in return. Music was that for him. Still is. So he named the band after it, moved to Salt Lake City, found a trumpet player through a bagpipe connection, and started building something from scratch in a city that didn’t have much of a ska scene to speak of. That was 2022. Three years later, they have a debut album, a six-piece lineup of musicians who are, by his own admission, considerably more talented than he is, and a reason to keep going that has nothing to do with money or recognition.
