FACE/OFF: The Bands that Never Were

This week we’re leaving reality behind and diving into the world of fictional rock legends. Two bands that never were, born on screen, but forever burned into our playlists and pop culture memories.

SPINAL TAP — louder than loud, amps that go to 11, and a track record of spontaneous drummer combustion. The mockumentary kings who blurred the line between parody and pure rock ’n’ roll.

THE WONDERS (aka The One-ders) — the clean-cut garage band from That Thing You Do! who turned a catchy tune into a rocket ship straight to the top of the charts… for one shining summer.

Let the rumble begin! The SONIQLOOX PIT is open!

One makes the cut. Who are you taking?

And here’s a fun twist: Spinal Tap is actually making a comeback. Yep, after all these years, the amps are being dusted off for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, dropping in 2025 with the original crew back together. If history’s taught us anything, we can expect exploding drummers, questionable stage props, and riffs that still go to 11.

Which makes us wonder… if Spinal Tap can rise again, could we ever get a sequel to That Thing You Do!? Maybe another hit single, another whirlwind tour, or just the guys sitting around remembering their one shining summer. We can dream.
